Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue!

For Toy Story Fans or mummies with children who are Toy Story fans, Mommy is sure you know this famous Buzz Lightyear's shooting-laser pose, right? Well, yesterday, Mommy had a good chance to see Juan Or put the pose to 'good use'.


It all started when yesterday, Mommy had to make a sudden trip down to Pandamaran in Port Klang to change a car tyre. The tyre on the back of the driver's side was already bulging and swollen, so posed a higher risk for bursting and thus very high chance for road accident to happen. You may be wondering why change tyre in Pandamaran, somewhere far away from where Mommy stays? That's because Mommy's Ah Yi (maternal aunt) and her husband opened a tyre shop, so Mommy is sure of getting good price for the tyre and service plus Mommy need not worry whether a certain procedure or service is unnecessarily done onto the car in order to make more money from the customer.

That day, by noon, Mommy came out from office, went off to fetch Juan Or from the babysitter first and then headed off to Pandamaran. Once at the tyre shop, Mommy was greeted by Mommy's cousin (Ah Yi's son) who helps his parents full-time in the shop where hard labour of tyre services is concerned. The last time Juan Or went to Ah Yi's place and meets her and her family, Juan Or would always end up crying because he is the type who cannot stand to see unfamiliar faces looking straight at him. But by now, at 2 years 5 months old, Mommy was still unsure what would his reaction be to face them. So when Mommy was telling the cousin about the car's tyre problem, Juan Or was cool. Nothing seems to bother him. But problem started when Juan Or sensed that Mommy was bringing him to the shop's office section. Mommy had not even started to open the office door, Juan Or had already burst out crying in protest!

So in the end, Mommy had to bring Juan Or for shopping at EconSave to stop him from crying further (Yes! Luckily EconSave is just about next to Ah Yi's shop!). And of course, when it comes to shopping, Juan Or is all for it! So we had a good time shopping plus window shopping with Juan Or riding in the shopping cart. In the end, Mommy only bought some big onions and limau nipis (lime) because the supply was already finishing at home.

After coming out from EconSave, there was a row of kiddy rides and as usual Juan Or wouldn't want to miss that. Juan Or rode on the car kiddy ride without any coins inserted. Then one Malay toddler who looks just a little older than Juan Or came and sat on one Doraemon kiddy ride just next to Juan Or. What Mommy saw next was a typical scene of  'monkey see, monkey do'. Whenever the Malay toddler stood up, Juan Or would follow suit. And when he sat down, Juan Or would do likewise too. And both kids seemed to enjoy the play even though they were strangers to each other. After that, the Malay toddler attempted to touch Juan Or on his arm. Juan Or is one boy who doesn't like to be touched by unknown people - not even by unknown kids. So to ward off the boy's touch, Juan Or did the Buzz Lightyear shooting-laser pose on him! ^_^ But of course the Malay toddler was not bothered by the shooting-laser pose and still went ahead to touch Juan Or!

Not just that, Juan Or even gathered all the words associated with Buzz Lightyear to scold the Malay toddler for touching him. Mommy remembered hearing Juan Or scold the boy with words such as "Buzz Lightyear!" and "astronaut!". ^_^ *Kids!*

Juan Or's 'Bus' Ride

This is also an outdated post dating back to 17th September 2010, i.e., about one week after Hari Raya.

It was a Friday and both Papa and Mommy took leave from work. We went window shopping at 1 Utama. Since the Hari Raya public holidays were just about a week ago, we could understand why most temporary Hari Raya stalls had already been dismantled at one of the concourse area, thus leaving a very ugly sight in this uppity class mall.

It looked like as if the hurricane had swept through the mall!


Well, never mind about that. That was none of our business after all. So we went on with our window shopping. As usual, Juan Or would be on the lookout for his favourite kiddy rides.

Of particular interest was the bus kiddy ride.

This bus kiddy ride already had a bear-bear 'driver' fixed to its seat. Funnily though, Juan Or asked the bear-bear to move aside to make way for him to do the driving! He even went to as far as 'sitting' on the bear-bear to take over its place!

But of course, what you see in the video was what Mommy asked him to do....well, that's because when he first did that without Mommy's coaxing, Mommy was not ready with the handphone camera. So Mommy had to coax him to talk to the bear-bear again in order to record the episode. ^_^

Within about half an hour later, Juan Or dozed off in the shopping cart. At first, he was sleeping in upright position.....

.....then slowly his body went down.....

.....then up again....

.....and down again!

Simply Curious or Just Plain Cheeky?

Mommy was just back from work and quickly bought economy rice for dinner, picked up Juan Or from the babysitter's house and then detoured to The Store Sri Petaling to grab some things before heading back home.

As usual, Mommy put Juan Or into the shopping cart and 'parked' him somewhere near the rack that Mommy was browsing and choosing (it was the lingerie section). When Mommy turned the head, this was what Juan Or was up to.....

Then he went on further to......

So Mommy told him,"Eeeee......shame, shame, cannot do like that in public", but he still went on doing, this time even more on purpose and with a cheeky grin some more.

So is he simply curious or just plain cheeky? ^_^

Just the Two of Us

Yesterday was Federal Territory Day. So it was an off-day for Mommy since Mommy's workplace is in Cheras, but not for Papa whose workplace is under Selangor state. By the way, it was an off-day for the babysitter too since we all stay in Kuala Lumpur. Originally, Mommy had planned to take Juan Or to the National Zoo but later decided against it because Papa had just discovered that his driving license has expired for almost 2 months! So by hook or by crook, Mommy had to go to any post office in Selangor to renew Papa's driving license. So that early morning (about 6.10 am), Mommy fetched Papa to work, then Mommy came back to continue sleeping. Then by around 9.30am, with Juan Or strapped to his baby car seat, Mommy drove to the post office in Tesco Puchong.

We reached Tesco Puchong's post office at around 10.05 am and from the number slip that Mommy got, there were 84 more customers before it's Mommy's turn to be served! Mommy was very tempted to go shopping in Tesco during the waiting time, but decided against it as Mommy did not want to risk missing Mommy's turn. So what was Mommy to do with so much waiting time and with a toddler tagging along? Luckily there is a McDonald's restaurant and the McDonald's playground facility is really, really a godsend! And since there were not many kids playing (only about 1 or 2 at any one time), so Mommy allowed Juan Or to play there. So off and on, after a while of playing, Mommy 'dragged' Juan Or along to go check the current turn number at the post office. Whenever Mommy wanted to do that, Juan Or would protest and act uncooperative! So Mommy would 'intimidate' him by pretending to walk off. Then Juan Or would call out to Mommy (scared of Mommy leaving him! Hehehe!) and Mommy would turn back to take him and he would act uncooperative again! But finally Juan Or would give in after several times of 'leaving' him. Here are snapshots of Juan Or enjoying himself at the McDonald's playground.

"Well, if nobody wants to play with me, then I shall play by myself! Yippy, I love playing at the stairs! Climb up!"

"See this little girl? Hahaha....finally found myself a playmate!" Mommy's note: This little girl had actually entrusted Mommy to help her take care of a pair of children sunglasses that her Daddy had just bought for her so that she could go play at the playground with Juan Or. By the way, where's her Daddy then? Apparently he was busy choosing himself a pair of sunglasses to buy too at a nearby booth! Juan Or, on the other hand, was very happy to be in the presence of other children (Mommy can see him shouting happily!) although the other children (not this little girl) were not really playing with him.

Finally, at about 11.15 am, Mommy's turn came. However, shortly before Mommy's turn, Mommy managed to put Juan Or to sit on a shopping cart that someone had abandoned at the post office. Since the post office was very small and crammed, Mommy was not able to push the shopping cart in, but Mommy was in luck. There's this gentleman, Mr. Tiew, who is the father of two of Mommy's piano students who was also waiting for his turn. So Mommy asked him to help keep an eye on Juan Or while Mommy did the transaction. After it was done, Mommy had a short chat with Mr. Tiew and thanked him as well. Mr. Tiew particularly mentioned that when he came over, Juan Or actually told him "Mama, mama!" while pointing at Mommy's direction! Oh, how sweet of Juan Or! Actually Mommy was surprised too why Juan Or didn't cry when Mr. Tiew approached him (it's common for Juan Or to cry whenever a stranger approaches him and sees him straight in the eyes!). Or perhaps Mr. Tiew has this baby-friendly aura considering that he still has a 3-month old infant at home (his 3rd child)?

After the post office, Mommy took Juan Or for a quick shopping in Tesco. Mommy bought 2 pairs of Mickey and Minnie Mouse in Chinese New Year attire (12 " tall plush toys), each for RM17.95 (which is considered cheap because the cheapest ever was RM19.90 for 8" ones) as part of Mommy's collection and also for Juan Or to play with. By then, it was something like 12.30pm and Juan Or was fretful already due to sleepiness.

Shortly after leaving Tesco, Juan Or dozed off in his baby carseat while Mommy drove to the new house's garden area to buy fried rice with crab meat for lunch. It cost RM6. Halfway through when waiting for the food to be ready, Juan Or started fretting and cried again, but luckily as Mommy rocked him on the lap and sang softly to him, he calmed down.

After buying lunch, we headed to our new house. That's when Mommy ate while feeding Juan Or as well. Then Mommy tried rocking Juan Or to sleep, but he refused, instead wanted to play. After playing and sweating, Mommy took bath of Juan Or and then, Mommy took bath too while Juan Or played by himself. Actually Mommy was doing a trial-run of handling Juan Or single-handedly without anyone's assistance and so far, so good! ^ ^

All doing all that, it was already 4.30 pm and almost time to get ready to fetch Papa back from work. So by 5 pm, Mommy and Juan Or left the new house and headed for Papa's workplace, during which Juan Or immediately dozed off in the baby carseat again. Finally, by 6 pm, we reached Sri Petaling (in-laws' house) and Juan Or was still asleep. Guess he must be very, very tired after an entire day of outing and playing.

Juan Or in the Kiddy Car-cum-Shopping Cart at Ikano Power Centre

This is an outdated post. Mommy was busy with other things for the past few days, so could not post this earlier.

On the last of the Hari Raya holiday, i.e., on Tuesday, Mommy decided to take Juan Or to Ikano Power Centre to try out the kiddy car-cum-shopping cart. What's more, most city folks were not around during Hari Raya, so there shouldn't be too much crowd in shopping complexes (Mommy was thinking about H1N1!). Thinking that the kiddy car-cum-shopping cart was for free to use, Papa and Mommy decided to go there early hoping to get hold of it before others. Upon reaching the customer service counter, turned out that the kiddy car cart was not for free! A refundable deposit of RM20 was required and the rental was RM2 for every 1 hour. Since Mommy wanted Juan Or to experience the kiddy car cart ride, so Mommy paid the necessary. Anyway, RM2 per hour is reasonable considering that those electric kiddy car rides require RM1 for just few minutes' worth of ride.

Juan Or seemed to enjoy every moment of the kiddy car cart ride. Mommy can see Juan Or busy turning the steering in multiple directions as Mommy pushed the cart. There was one moment when Mommy can see so much happiness shone on his face when the cart was moving. When we were going up the escalator, there was one moment when Juan Or turned his head back to look at Mommy, then he gave Mommy a loving smile! How sweet! When one hour was almost up, Mommy tried coaxing Juan Or to come out from the kiddy car cart, but Juan Or refused. So Mommy tried taking him out from the car to which Juan Or shouted and fretted with his hands holding on tight to the steering! Mommy then pretended to walk away leaving him behind while Papa tried to get him out, This time there was less resistance though the shouting and fretting was still there. Mommy paid for the cart rental and casually asked the customer service lady whether other kids acted like this too when time was up and she said yes...hahaha!





Later on, we walked to section whether there was display of home interior items such as comforters and bed sheet sets. There were two young guys in their late teens manning the section. What surprised Mommy most was when Juan Or went near the two guys who were total strangers to him (Juan Or usually cries when strangers are in close proximity to him!) and smiled and waved at them! And the two guys smiled back at Juan Or. Don't know why, but Juan Or seemed to like them! After that, Mommy walked him away, but later Juan Or forcefully changed his direction and walked back to see the two guys again! And again, Juan Or smiled and waved at them! Hmmmm.....funny boy!
