Morib Beach and Tanjung Sepat (Part 1)

This is an outdated post dating back to 31st December 2010.

We spent our New Year Eve by going somewhere quite far away, more of a joyride trip. Initially, Papa wanted to explore some alternative route that connects Puchong to Dengkil, Paya Indah and Sepang areas, but eventually the road leads us towards Banting. That was how we ended up going to Morib Beach and then later to Tanjung Sepat for lunch.

It was low tide that time, so Papa went down to the muddy beach to explore while Juan Or and Mommy merely stroll at the concrete-laden part of the beach.

Morib Beach has changed face a lot since the last time Mommy went there as a kid. The beach now has a lot more facilities for both children and adults now.

There are tile-laden walkways now.

There's also an educational section for visitors - the gastropode arena that has giant-sized seashells and  brief descriptions of more specific subgroups of gastropodes.

There is also a large playground for children and as usual, Juan Or would surely ask to play there!

And then Juan Or saw a big moth on the slide. He wanted to hit it but dared not, so he asked Mommy to hit it for him, but Mommy also dared not (E-yeer!) and instead asked him to hit it himself. So in the end, Juan Or did not hit it at all! ^-^

Then Juan Or went on to play with other things like the chains, ........

....'mountain'-climbing, ......

...and the rocking horse (but in this case, rocking elephant!).

Then there's also this structure that seems to resemble some kind of super-mini stadium whereby you see concrete slabs in curvy rows and gadually going downhill. So Juan Or used it for his play (or exercise?) instead.

Well, we didn't spend a very long time at Morib Beach because the sun was already very hot. So bye, bye Morib! And off we go to Tanjung Sepat! (Hint: stay tuned for Part 2!)

Juan Or's First Ferry Ride - to Pulau Ketam

This is an outdated post dating back to 20th September 2010. It was a Monday and Papa and Mommy were on leave that day. So we took Juan Or to South Port at Port Klang to experience his first ferry ride and that was to Pulau Ketam.

South Port has changed a lot since the last time Papa and Mommy went there. That time (in 2006), we were married already but Mommy did not plan to get pregnant yet. These are the changes since 2006: (i) the ferry tickets are no longer sold in the jetty building itself, instead they are sold via the ferry conductor when you are already seated in the ferry, (ii) a new extension jetty dedicated only to Pulau Ketam trips has been built and this new wing of jetty is something like 1km away from the old jetty building, and (iii) the old jetty building now becomes the waiting area for ferry trips to certain districts (Dumai in Riau and Tanjung Balai Asahan) in Sumatra, Indonesia (so you can expect to see a lot of Indonesian immigrants waiting there).

Papa parked at the new wing jetty (RM3 for parking), and we walked to the actual waiting area. Unfortunately, there was no signboard whatsoever to indicate the timing of the ferries, instead there was signboard indicating the ferry's fare! *Does that sound like Chinamen's way of doing business? Money, money, money only and no other proper information!* ^_^ The fare (one way only) for adult is RM7 and children RM4. However, the ferry operator did not define children of what age to be chargeable. There were other people waiting for the ferry too and when Mommy asked one of them whether she knew the timing of the ferries (perhaps she is a local?), she shrugged her shoulders and said she would merely wait until the next ferry arrived. So with an uncertain waiting time (it was 10am then), Mommy managed to take some photos at the jetty.

These are snapshots of the jetty. See the plump lady in light blue T-shirt and a little girl in pink dress? She was the lady that Mommy asked about the ferry's timing. This jetty looks 'funny' because shortly after the roofed walkway part, the large waiting area is built without any roof for shelter and shade! Funny, isn't it?

And of course, not to forget too are photos of Juan Or and Papa waiting at the jetty....

...and a scenary of the South Port itself.

Finally after about 15 minutes' wait, a ferry arrived at the jetty, and this type of ferry, the open-air type, is the one fancied by Papa to ride on (rather than the air-conditioned ferry). After asking the ferry man, turned out this ferry was not heading towards Pulau Ketam. But then, Mommy could see passengers coming out from the ferry, so how can it not be from Pulau Ketam?  So both Papa and Mommy hypothesized that this open-air type of ferry probably only catered to their Pulau Ketam locals and that maybe the open-air and air-conditioned ferry operators must have some sort of agreement  and arrangement about what kind of passengers to carry.

Finally at 10.30am, the air-conditioned ferry arrived and we hopped in. The ferry did not start to move until 10.45am. When going into the ferry, Mommy saw a signboard in the ferry itself indicating the ferry's timing. Apparently there is supposed to be a ferry trip in every 1 hour's time and the sailing off time is at 9.45am, 10.45am, 11.45am, 12.45pm and so on.

The ferry conductor came and Papa paid tickets only for two adults and Juan Or's ride was for FREE! Juan Or had a good time looking out of the ferry's window - looking at the ships, barges, buoys, and even the waves formed from the moving ferry!

The ferry trip to Pulau Ketam took only about 30 minutes, including various stops made at different points of the island itself because the ferry also carried some small cargo such as filled vegetable baskets, Pos Malaysia's mailbag and some odds and end stuff. So here we were Pulau Ketam's jetty.

We passed by the morning market area of Pulau Ketam, to which most of the traders were already packing up their stuff because it was almost noon already.

And turned out too, Monday is the worst day to visit Pulau Ketam if you intend to eat seafood there. We had hard luck - all the seafood restaurants were closed that day. What's left were only the small stalls and coffee shops that cater for the locals. What to do? So no choice, we ate char kuey teow and drank barley water for lunch, altogether for RM9. By the way, Juan Or refused to eat any char kuey teow, but only took some sips of the barley water.

See the propeller-like thing that Juan Or held in his right hand? Well, when Juan Or and Mommy passed the morning market area just now (Papa was already far ahead of us), Juan Or's itchy hand went and grab one candy stick-cum-toy thing and refused to let go. And when Mommy tried prying his fingers open, he started to fret and cry. Not wanting to end up having a fretful and crying child alongside (Papa's mood was already not good upon seeing the seafood restaurants closed!), Mommy didn't want to stretch Juan Or to his limit - no, not in this kind of place! So Mommy paid for the propeller-like thing that comes with chocolate candy (RM1). *So you see how smart these traders are. They purposely put this kind of kiddy things on low shelves so that kids can easily reach out and grab them and then the parents are 'forced' to pay for it!* ^_^

Here are some snapshots of Pulau Ketam. We didn't really walk our way deep into the island because the sun was very, very hot and Juan Or already showed some sign of sleepiness when we got out from the ferry just now.

We saw a big slithery lizard too.

Very fast, by 12pm, we were back at the jetty to wait for the next ferry.  So it's waiting time again.

The Pulau Ketam jetty's structure has more sense than the new wing jetty at South Port. This jetty has roof (and seats) all over the waiting area. Now, that's better......

By the time we were back home, Juan Or slept in the car ride while Mommy's head start to ache because Mommy is the kind who cannot stand being exposed to the hot sun. Of course, the 'cannot-stand-the-sun' effect will not show immediately, but it will show itself very clearly after all the fun and enjoyment....hmmmm....

Juan Or's First Time Joyride on the LRT

26th September 2010

This day marks the first time Papa brought Juan Or for his joyride on the light rail transit (LRT) which Juan Or fondly calls as "Choo choo train" or "Toot-toot train-train". Our starting point was at the Bukit Jalil station. We parked our car at the Bukit Jalil stadium's vicinity too which was RM2 per entry.

Now let the photos tell the story....

Here we were at the LRT station and waiting for an LRT to arrive. So here's Juan Or waiting gleefully for the LRT.

In the meantime, there were beautiful buildings and scenes to see from the LRT station, like the Bukit Jalil Stadium....

.....and a nearby river.

But Mommy still insisted on both Papa and Juan Or taking a photo with the stadium in the background.

Papa brought Juan Or to get a closer view of the "toot-toot train-train's" track as well.....

....and another cheeky face shot as well!

Finally, the LRT had arrived and in we hopped!

Luckily there were not many people yet in the LRT (that was around neaar 10am), so Mommy could snap some more photos!

After about 20 minutes' ride, we hopped off at the Bandaraya LRT station. Mommy managed to snap a photo of the "toot-toot train-train" itself.

The nearest shopping complex to the Bandaraya LRT station is Sogo. Partly why Papa chose to stop at the Bandaraya LRT station was because of Sogo and why Sogo was because the Malaysia Mega Sale was just over, so the shopping complex should be quite empty and therefore safe for Juan Or to 'roam' around.

'Roaming' around at the bedding section.....

....then at the kitchen appliances section.....

.....and ooops, at the breakable cookware section! Be careful! *Mommy won't have the money to pay for damaged goods!* ^_^

Think you are run and hide away from Mommy? ^_^

After Sogo, Papa said,"Come on, let's go back to the LRT station. Juan Or has already used all his energy to run here and there, plus it was already 2+ hours ago since he last woke up from sleep, so his fretfulness may appear anytime now!"

When is the "toot-toot train-train" coming?

Still an empty track.....

Yay, the toot-toot train-train is finally here!

In we hopped and ready to go!

Juan Or loves looking out from the window. There were office buildings.....

......station stopovers....

.....shopping complexes....

.....and the KL Tower!

Oops, we heard the driver announced that if we were heading to Bukit Jalil or Sri Petaling, we had to change "toot-toot train-train". All the while Papa thought it was all the way without having to change anything!

OK, never mind. Here we go - stepped out from the "toot-toot train-train" at the Chan Sow Lin station.....

....and waited at Platform 2A of the Chan Sow Lin station.

Still waiting.....

After waiting, finally we were in the "toot-toot train-train heading back to Bukit Jalil!

By about 11.30am, we reached the Bukit Jalil station and when we were already in the car, guess what Juan Or said? "Ai (want) toot-toot train-train again!" Guess if given a choice, Juan Or would want his LRT ride to be moving all the time without having to make any stops! ^_^
