Taking Mickey Mouse for a Ride

Yesterday, Juan Or had just discovered that he can put Mickey Mouse behind as the pillion rider on his baby car. Now Juan Or has a 'companion' whenever he takes a ride!

Longer Legs Now

Last time in April 2009, Mommy blogged about how Juan Or tried riding on his new baby car for the first time. Juan Or was almost 11 months old then (how time flies!) and his legs were still not long enough to reach the floor so much so when the car made a bend, ........(see this old video for yourself!)........

Notice his chubby arms and legs, and the babyish face and head back then?

Now Juan Or's legs are so much longer already, so reaching for the floor while riding on the baby car is not a problem anymore. But what does he do with his legs? He uses his legs as substitute for the steering instead! Watch this!

Now his limbs don't have the chubby baby look anymore. The face is also more like a little boy already, although the babyish-ness is still there. This video was taken in mid-December 2009 when he was 1 year 7 months old.

Teasing Mommy

Juan Or's sense of humour seems to be in teasing Mommy. Whenever Juan Or touches something forbidden, Mommy will be going,"Eeiii! eeiii! Cannot! Cannot touch!" Just yesterday evening, after Mommy took Juan Or back from the babysitter's house, Mommy allowed Juan Or to 'drive' the car, i.e., putting Juan Or to play with the car steering (with engine off, of course!). As a safety measure, Mommy made sure the car doors were locked, just in case Juan Or pulled the car door lever and ended up falling out of the car. Then as usual, Juan Or's itchy hands would go pulling at the car door lever. Although the car doors were locked, however, Mommy didn't want Juan Or to get into the habit of playing with the car door lever. So Mommy went 'Eeiii! eeiii! Cannot! Cannot touch!' whenever Juan Or pulled at it. On seeing Mommy going 'frantic' about the lever, Juan Or would start laughing heartily and in a mischievous manner. Then he would go teasing Mommy again by pretending to pull at the lever and just before pulling, he would laugh out loud! What a cute and mischievous baby, yet so lovable! Here are a series of consecutive snapshots showing Juan Or 'driving', playing with the signal light lever and laughing out loud for teasing Mommy:

Juan Or is so Eager to Drive!

Usually Mommy's car goes for petrol-filling during the weekends. However, this week was different - Mummy made sure that the car goes for maximum petrol-filling on 1st June 2009. Why? Because Mommy holds a Petronas-CIMB credit card that gives 5% petrol rebates on the 1st of every month. All other days are at 2% only. Considering that Mommy's financial commitment is high, so Mommy has to plan spendings to the best of Mommy's advantage.

That night itself on the 1st of June, Papa drove Mommy's car while Mommy took hold of Juan Or - the trip to the petrol station was also a joyride for Juan Or. First, Papa stopped at a Shell petrol station to pump air into Mommy's tyres. As soon as Papa left the driver's seat, Juan Or immediately took over the steering! Yes, Mommy understands that for innocent little Juan Or, driving is synonymous with turning the steering! So Mommy let him played at the steering. And on top of it all, Mommy was surprised to see that Juan Or knew how to reach out for the signal light, wiper and water spray levers! Indeed, Juan Or was having a good time pulling at those livers and laughed cheekily when the water sprayed onto the windscreen and the wiper moved! What a cute and cheeky baby!

After pumping petrol at a Petronas petrol station, we continued our journey back home. Along the way, there were many traffic light stops. Mommy noticed that Juan Or seemed to know that if the traffic light is red, it means stop. How does Mommy know that? Whenever Juan Or sensed that the car was slowing down in the presence of the traffic light, Juan Or would immediately crawl to Papa's driver position and 'took over' the steering the moment the car stopped. However, if the car stopped as a result of bumper-to-bumper, Juan Or would not act like that.

Here is a representative video of Juan Or taking over the steering. Somehow when Mommy aimed the handphone video camera at Juan Or, he seemed to become more conscious of what he was doing, thus appearing to be less cheeky. Watch how he pulled the water spray lever and laughed in delight (but Mommy swear that he laughed even more cheekily that night compared to what you see in the video!):

Juan Or is 'Driving' Already!

On the night of last week Friday, Juan Or and Mommy followed Papa to go pump petrol for Papa's car. After pumping, we headed over to Sri Petaling's The Store just for a quick window shopping and at the same time to take Juan Or out for a simple outing. In The Store, Mommy saw a number of children fun 'vehicle' machines where you insert coins and the 'vehicle' machine (where the child is riding on) will start moving. So Mommy asked Papa to wait for a while to let Juan Or ride on it. However, Papa warned that there is a possibility that Juan Or may get too 'addicted' to the ride such that he may protest when lifted out from the 'vehicle'. Anyway, Mommy took the risk and lifted Juan Or in (but no coins were put in anyway!).

Here are snapshots of Juan Or driving his newfound 'vehicle' and a video of it too.

("Welcome aboard! I'm your driver of the day!")

("Vroom! Vroom!")

("Always look first before you go!")

(Juan Or happily 'driving' away.)

So in the end, did Juan Or protest when Mommy decided that the ride was over? Well, sure enough, Juan Or struggled to resist being carried out of the 'vehicle' and almost cried in protest, but Mommy managed to distract him by asking him to see another nearby children game paraphernalia. And we walked off and left for home.
